Dover Athletic have secured their first new signing of the summer with midfielder Shane Huke agreeing a one-year contract at Crabble.

Huke, a 25-year-old central midfielder, joins the Blue Square Bet South side from Blue Square Premier side Rushden & Diamonds.

The Sidcup-based player began his career as a trainee at Peterborough United before moving to Dagenham & Redbridge on a free transfer in May 2007.

Huke, who was raised in Australia, was a regular in the Diamonds side last season racking up 30 league appearances.

Huke told the club's website: “Martin called me a couple of weeks ago and we met. He outlined all his ambitions for the new season and it really excited me. I wanted to join a big club and Dover fit the bill for me.”
