A Dover-based music supplier is taking over the sales of another music retailing business this weekend - and all because 2012 is a leap year.

Steve and Sue Yarrow run Forwoods, a mail-order company, from a barn outside Dover. It was originally established in Canterbury in 1946.

While listening to the BBC Radio 4 PM programme, the couple heard a challenge to listeners to do something different, or something they might have been putting off for a while, to celebrate having an extra day this year.

They decided to make a bid for the music sales of the company Goodmusic, based near Tewkesbury.

“I wrote to them on February 29 as a result of the Leap for PM initiative, and this is the result,” said Mr Yarrow.

The couple will be featured on the PM programme on Radio 4 this Friday, between 5 and 6pm, and Forwoods will take over Goodmusic’s sales of printed music from Saturday, adding to their own already thriving business.

Goodmusic is quite similar to Forwoods in that it is also run by a husband and wife team, Elizabeth and David Good, who also operate from a barn in a village a few miles from Tewkesbury.

They are looking to concentrate on the publishing side of their business, selling music they actually produce.

"This marks a major investment in the future of our printed music business, and is a sign of our confidence in the continued growth of the market," said Mr Yarrow.

"We offer a warm welcome to Goodmusic customers transferring over to Forwoods, and wish David and Liz Good all the very best in the continued expansion and development of their publishing company."

It’s been quite a year for Mr and Mrs Yarrow, who celebrated their silver wedding anniversary this month.
