Dover Regatta has been hailed a great success, despite the lack of sunshine and Mediterranean temperatures on Saturday or Sunday.

High winds halted the Dover Rowing Club junior event and a parachute display, but the rest of the programme went ahead.

Gill Gough, vice-chairman of the Dover Regatta organisers, said: "On behalf of the group I would like to thank the people of Dover who turned out to support the 12 Dover Regatta.

"It was very rewarding to see so many smiling faces despite the wind and rain.

"We were delighted to have a flag raising ceremony on Saturday with the help of Dover Sea Cadets. It is an important part of the Regatta as it marks its opening and gives us an opportunity to acknowledge all our armed forces who are serving both in this country and abroad."

Mrs Gough said the yacht race suffered from a lack of wind but still provided a stunning and colourful sight. The dragon races were also a highlight.
