Drivers told not to travel
09:02, 19 December 2010
Police were advising motorists not to travel following heavy snow fall across the county.
Christmas shoppers walked home in Dover and Deal and cars were being collected this morning, Sunday.
On Saturday Detective Chief Inspector Jon Clayden said: "The snow fall has been very heavy across the county today; it appears to have subsided now but roads have been left treacherous.
" If motorists must travel then we, as ever, would recommend taking precautions such as checking your route before travelling, and packing warm waterproof clothes, food and a shovel."
The advice from Kent Police is to check the weather forecast and road conditions for your journey and destination before you travel.
Members of the public are reminded to only call 999 if a crime is in progress or life is in danger. All other calls to the police should be directed to the single non-emergency number of 01622 690690.
On Saturday Dover Coastguard Station loaned its four-wheel drivers vehicles to keep medical teams move round the Dover and Deal areas as roads became dangerous. The drivers were able to take critical care nurses to visit their patients.
