A Dutch couple whose son’s body was found on the foreshore near Dover in February are appealing for help in tracing someone in this area who may have known him.

Kaj Nuijten, pictured, who was 35 and lived in Utrecht in Holland, was on his way to Dover when he disappeared earlier this year.

His body was found at Fan Bay on February 3.

His father, Jan Nuijten, said: “The night before he was found dead he must have fallen off the P&O ferry that came from Calais, when the sea near Dover was heavy and a snowstorm raged.

“We have good reason to believe that our son was on his way to visit someone he seems to have referred to as his partner, only a few days before Christmas.

“It is very likely that this person lives in Kent, probably even in Dover itself. When Kaj didn’t show up, she must have thought that our son failed her, which of course we would like to put right.

“We want to be able to tell her what really happened.”

Anyone who has information about the person he knew in this area can contact Mr Nuijten by email at jnuijten@ziggo.nl or contact the Mercury newsdesk at 13 Queen Street, Deal CT14 6EX, phone 01304 365526, and we will pass a message on.
