Music, exhibitions, boxing and plenty of fun are set to make up the second Kent Miners Festival this Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday.
Sponsored by Mercury publishers, the KM Group, the two day spectacular will take place at Fowlmead Country Park on the A258 Deal to Sandwich Road at Sholden.
Gary Cox, chairman of the festival committee said: "There will be lots for all the family to do."
After the massive success of the inaugural festival last August, which was held to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the closure of the Kent Coalfield, organisers decided this year’s festival should be spread over two days, to replicate the feel of the original miners gala days enjoyed by people in the pit communities in Kent.
Keen to strike a balance between traditional gala day fun and present day pursuits, the event list includes a display of the co-ordination phenomenon, speed stacking by Walmer brothers Kieren and Ryan Mullage who competed in last year’s World championships in Texas.
Adult and children's tug o’war contests will also be held. Youth activities will take place on Sunday and adult activities, including a miners reunion, will take place on Monday, although both are billed as family fun days.
The Kent Miners Festival is a free community festival, open between 10am and 5pm on Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday.
