White Cliffs Walking Festival continues this weekend

For those that fancy a walk this weekend the White Cliffs Walking Festival continues over the bank holiday.

Today (Saturday) Mandy Whall will lead the walk, Tour of the Drop Redoubt and Grand Shaft, meeting at Drop Redoubt Road, near the cattle grid in Dover.

This two mile walk may be repeated on Monday if demand is high.

Later at 6.30pm, Gregory Holyoake will lead a group from Deal Castle on a historical walk delving into the smuggling history of the town.

On Sunday, August 24, walks include:

The Seven Churches Walk: Meet outside the Five Bells, Ringwould at 9am. This is a delightful countryside tour visiting Ringwould, Ripple, Sutton, Tilmanstone, Eythorne, Waldershare and West Langdon.

Nature Trail Walk: Park at Kearnsey Abbey and the walk starts at 10am. Feast your eyes on the rolling hills and countryside of the Alkham Valley and delight in the hidden charm of Lydden Nature Reserve.

The Blue Plaque Trail: This has been organised by the Deal Society. Meet outside St George's Church, High Street, Deal at 10.30am to explore the history of Deal and Walmer.

Treasure Trail: Meet at the Dover Market Square at 2pm. This is suitable for children accompanied by an adult. It is a fun walk in and around Dover town centre, follow the map and find the treasure.

History of St Margaret's Bay: Meet at the village car park near the church at 2pm. This gentle walk will take you around the Front Line trail of sites from the first and second world wars.

Deal- All in the Downs: Start at Sandown Castle at 2pm. The Downs is the most famous anchorage in the world. The walk will investigate the area known as North Deal.
