Iceland bosses are investigating after a fight broke out between two female staff members in the Deal store.
Customers witnessed the punch-up between the two women in the Queen Street store at about 5pm on Wednesday.
One 50-year-old staff member is believed to have suffered black eyes and cuts.
She is understood to have been working her notice period after resigning following five and a half years with the company.
Michael Prime, a friend of one of the women, said: "You can't believe a company like Iceland would employ somebody that would beat somebody up."
Iceland confirmed it is investigating the incident and "will take any action that may be appropriate".
An Iceland spokesman said: "Unfortunately we can confirm that an incident occurred in the storage area of our Deal store on the afternoon of Wednesday, 2 April, and we would like to apologise for any upset or inconvenience this may have caused to our customers in the store at that time.
"The incident involved two members of staff, one of whom had already resigned and was serving her notice period.
"We are unable to offer any further information or comment until we have completed a full investigation into the incident and the reasons for it.
"We will take any action that may be appropriate when we have seen the conclusions of this investigation."
