Dover fire crews tackled a roaring bonfire at 7.30am today after nearby residents raised the alarm that it was becoming uncontrollable.
The bonfire was at the King Lear Public House site in the Old Folkestone Road, Aycliffe.
Builders who were working on the site were burning rubbish.
Neighbours were complaining about the amount of smoke caused.
A spokesman for Kent Fire & Rescue at Dover, said the fire was extinguished for the safety of others living close by.
