Customers were evacuated from a pub at St Margaret's, between Dover and Deal, on Friday night (April 23) when the bar became smoke-logged.

People were enjoying their evening drinks and meals at the Red Lion pub in the village when the bar area filled with smoke after the chimney caught fire.

Fire crews from Dover attended and put the fire out. Fire chiefs are warning people to make sure they have their chimneys swept regularly.

Meanwhile, an investigation is taking place into the cause of a roof blaze at a pub in Sandwich on Wednesday afternoon, April 21.

Appliances from Sandwich, Deal and Ramsgate were called to the George and Dragon at 3.30pm where they stripped about six square metres from the roof and extinguished the flames using hose reels.

Deal watch manager David Potter said: "It seems the fire started in a room in the apex of the roof which was used as accommodation."

The pub was closed at the time the fire broke out and remained closed for the rest of the day, but it is now trading as usual.
