First birthday
09:57, 19 April 2013
A group of mothers who started their own breastfeeding club have just celebrated their first birthday with a party.
Deal Mayor Cllr Marlene Burnham was among the guests at a shared lunch to mark the special day for the Deal Breastfeeding Support Group.
Main organiser Candice Roberts said: “We had a display of the achievements and progress made since becoming independent a year ago.
“The mayor enjoyed talking to the mums and enjoyed holding some of the babies too!"
The original Deal Breastfeeding Support Group had been providing support for nearly 15 years and closed last year after funding was withdrawn. A new organisation was created after a few of the mothers got together to run the group themselves.
Mrs Roberts added: “They had no idea at that time if it was going to work, they were just driven by a desire not to lose something that had been cherished by so many.”
