Unsuspecting passers-by had a shock in Deal on Saturday when a flash mob started dancing in the middle of the high street.

It started with one lone dancer near New Look in the town centre, and ended with a group of around 30 people including a handful who didn’t know what was going on.

The flash mob was organised by Dance Dynamique, a dance group in Deal led by instructors Kelly Woodward, Sarah Maynard, Emma Fay and Sophie Morris.

Ms Woodward said: “It definitely caused a stir. It’s never been done in Deal before. It was a raining, miserable day and it cheered the town up.”

Love Drinks cafe provided the power for speakers to play the music and the dance was started by instructor Sophie Morris.

Ms Woodward said: “Everyone was looking at her and then gradually we all joined in. Everyone stopped and watched and came out of the shops to look.

“We had a massive response on Deal Watch on Facebook. There wasn’t one negative comment.

“Some people who were working in the shops in the town came and joined in. They didn’t have a clue what was going on, they thought the town had gone mad.”

Dance Dynamique holds classes in zumba, bowkwa, adult street dance, a kids club and team troop.

Ms Woodward said the main aim was to get the group's name out there and have some fun.

She said: “Anyone can do it no matter what size or shape you are, that’s what I love about it.”

This was definitely proved with children and the elderly joining in the dance on the day.

The dance instructor also explained that a lot of organisation goes into a flash mob, including getting permission from the council and gaining a permit as well as having health and safety checks. Without this, a group responsible for a flash mob could be fined.
