A Deal area emergency foodbank is being set up, but storage and office space are urgently needed before the idea can become a reality.
The project has been launched by church members in the town and £1,500 has just been donated from St Leonard’s Parochial Church Council, which includes the churches of St Leonard’s, St Richard’s and St Nicholas.
Chairman of DAEF trustees is Alan Thompson, who said: “It is a shame that it is needed in the first place, but unless Deal is bucking then a foodbank is needed in this area.”
The Trussle Trust is behind the nationwide foodbank idea and the project works by non-perishable and in-date food being donated by schools, churches, businesses and individuals.
