"Fun-loving son" killed as he walked home from wedding party
10:38, 11 September 2013
The parents of the 20-year-old man killed as he walked home from a friends’ wedding party early on Friday have spoken of their fun-loving son.
Grant Dawkins, who lived on Buckland Estate, died on the A2 near Singledge Lane after he was hit by a car driven by a young woman from Herne Bay.
John and Christine Dawkins were this week coming to terms with the tragic death of their youngest son, who, they said, had been determined to make a career as a carpenter. They have another son, Aaron and a daughter Natasha.
Grant was at the party with his parents at The Ramada Hotel, at Whitfield, on Thursday night.
His father said that he got them all up dancing. “He was that sort of lad,” said Mr Dawkins.
When his parents left to go home, Grant said he would walk home later.
But he is thought to have been crossing the road when he was in collision with a Mercedes car at 1.30am and died at the scene.
Police have appealed for any witnesses or anyone who saw Grant walking in the area before the collision to get in contact with them.
Investigating officer, DS Scott Lynch, said: “The young man was wearing a pale blue shirt and black trousers.
“I believe he walked down Singledge Lane prior to the incident and would appeal to anybody with information to come forward.”
Anyone who can help should call 01622 798538.
