A Whitfield woman will be taking to the stage to offer a night of music to raise cash for a Girl Guides service project.

Zelma Stevens, 25, will be belting out songs at St Mary’s Parish Centre, in Church Street, Dover, on Saturday, starting at 7pm.

The former music student was selected as part of a team of seven to travel to a remote town called Gilgil in Kenya for three weeks in July.

Zelma will be going with Girlguiding UK to support the work of another charity called Sanchat, which helps the lives of those less fortunate by undertaking projects to help create a better way of living.

She said: “Sanchat runs a home for children who are orphaned and neglected, and they also have community projects including a gardening programme to make the village self-sufficient.

“We have been asked to create our own programme to provide entertainment for the children of the home. So we are using our skills to provide performing arts games and workshops, sports activities and craft activities...”
