Daniel Squire memorial match raises £550 for Kent Air Ambulance after teen's road crash death

A fitting way to remember Daniel Squire enabled his family to raise £550 for Kent Air Ambulance.
The annual memorial football match, held at Deal Town Football Club’s Charles Ground, saw Daniel’s youth team Rover Colts reform to play against the keen triathlete’s friends from Deal.
His family, mother Tracy, father Symon, sister Hayley and niece Keira all stood at the centre spot for a minute’s silence before kick-off.
Tracy said: “I did the first kick of the game to Sy.
“Everyone played amazing, it was a great game.”
Mr Squire, who was described as playing with “such strength and courage” to remember his son, was named man of match.
Fellow player Luke Reeve was most entertaining player.
Mrs Squire added: “I would like to thank everyone involved that helped. It was such a great occasion again. Everyone made Daniel proud.”
Daniel, 18, was killed after an accident on the A258 road at Ringwould on Saturday, September 7, 2013.
He was cycling from his home in Reach Close St Margaret’s to his father’s house in Ringwould where father and son planned to embark on a training ride on his new bike ahead of the Bolton Iron Man endurance contest.
But Daniel was struck by a van driven by St Margaret’s resident Philip Sinden. He was airlifted to a London Hospital where he died of his injuries the next day.
Mr Sinden was later acquitted of causing death by dangerous driving following an investigation that claimed he was texting at the wheel at the time of impact. He had admitted typing messages earlier in the journey.
Daniel’s tragedy has prompted frequent fundraising events in aid of Kent Air Ambulance, whose intervention enabled the family to donate Daniel’s organs to help others.
A recent cycle ride, organised by friends at Deal Tri, raised cash for cancer teenager Kelly Turner.
