Pupils in Dover, Deal and Sandwich have been celebrating after the release of their GCSE results, setting new records of success.

Teenagers are now planning the next steps in their lives, with many staying at school to continue their studies for A-levels.

Mercury photographer Paul Amos has captured the moments when the results were released. The pictures can be seen in the East Kent Mercury and Dover Mercury next week.

Walmer Science College is delighted that it has achieved good results this year. A total of 61% of students gained five or more passes at GCSE at C grade or above. In addition, 39% of students gained Maths and English at GCSE at C grade or above.

Paul Luxmoore, executive headteacher, said: "These results are evidence that Walmer Science College is a successful school. We are confident that results will be even better next year and that Walmer Science College is a school for the community to be proud of."

Impressive GCSE results at Dover College reflected similarly good A-level results last week.

A total of 92% of the candidates achieved A*-C passes in five or more subjects, with an overall pass-rate of 82%.

Exceptional results were gained by two students from Folkestone. Emma Brand achieved four A*s and six As while Joseph Ciconne obtained two A*, six A and two B grades.

Astor College provided another record set of results at GCSE level. A total of 37% of students achieved five+ A* - C grades including English and maths, surpassing the governmentf target of 35%. Ed Pallant, head of college, praised his students and staff, as well as recognising the supporfrom parents.

Chief executive Chris Russell was delighted with Astor’s success.
