“I’m going to have to take your trousers off,” was one of many statements that had viewers howling when Gogglebox’s Dom and Steph Parker from Sandwich met Ukip Leader Nigel Farage.
The Channel 4 show, which aired last night, was designed to entertain, and Mr Farage certainly stepped up to the mark.
With the wine-guzzling stars from the popular fly on the wall show, it was always going to be booze-fuelled spectacle anyway.
But the show was not as outrageous as viewers had hoped.
David Little, Ukip’s prospective Parliamentary candidate for Deal and Dover, said: “It was pretty tepid actually.”
And Charlie Elphicke, MP for Deal, said: “I didn’t watch it. Quite frankly I think we all see enough of Nigel Farage and it’s not a pleasant sight!”
It started with XTC’s Making Plans for Nigel playing in the background while Steph faffed around with paid staff making preparations for their guest.
Meanwhile Dom was making plans too - to swig as much wine as he could at a tasting at Hercules Wine in Moat Sole.
When Nigel appeared, he was poured an over-frothing beer and the booze and laughter continued to flow.
The men sampled a few in Dom’s local, the George and Dragon, where regulars seemed both enthralled and mortified at the exposure.
A nice close up showed Glen Williams, owner of Strand Wine perched at the bar and other members of staff.
When the two returned, “chopsy” Steph greeted them with a stern telling off and foul language in equal measures, which left Nigel floundering until she laughed it off and told them she was joking.
Screen shots panned over the Secret Gardens of Sandwich, the attraction owned by Dom and Steph, which is in the grounds of their home the Salutation on Knightrider Street, overlooking the Quay.
The garden appears to have been restored to its former glory since it was ruined by sea water from the last tidal surge in 2013, which left much of the grounds under a metre of water.
Nigel revealed he has had three goes at dying, having suffered various car crashes. “I’m still here. I live life to the full,” he said.
“I didn’t watch it. Quite frankly I think we all see enough of Nigel Farage and it’s not a pleasant sight...” Charlie Elphicke MP
“You haven’t eaten our food yet,” quipped Dom.
And then the fun and games started when booze was spilt over Nigel’s groin and Steph insisted she had to take his trousers off.
She ordered Dom to get him some trousers. “What do you want? Leather? Shall I go and get him some leather?” he asked?
Seconds later Steph was discussing the care label in Nigel’s slacks and the Ukip leader then emerged wearing Towie-worthy ripped jeans, an impromptu accompaniment to the politician’s shirt, tie and blue jacket.
“I think you could wear those in Europe...” complimented Dom.
The only time he appeared unable to laugh at himself, was when past picture shot was bought up, which resembled a Hitler-esque Nigel. It prompted a stark return: “I didn’t find it funny. I don’t find Hitler funny.”
After the show David Little said: “I can’t speak for Nigel but I think the problem is the fact that so many people are trying to trip us up all the time that you end up being very non-committal.”
At the very end, Nigel hadn't persuaded the couple to support his party.
Dom did admit: "I won't be voting for you!"
