Gurkhas help dismantle
and move the catapult

The Ghurkas have begun an unusual operation at Dover Castle -
dismantling a replica medieval catapult so it can be moved to a new
location.

The catapult, officially known as a trebuchet, was a giant
stone-throwing machine used to attack the castle during a siege in
1216.

It has been on display within the Inner Bailey next to the
castle keep, or Great Tower as it is now known. As part of the
multi-million transformation of the tower, the machine is being
moved to a more appropriate location, outside the walls.

Deputy Constable of Dover Castle, Brigadier Iain James, said the
Ghurkas were called in to do the job as part of their training.

The work is expected to take about two weeks.
