A parent who set up a GoFundMe appeal to help his daughter's nursery replace much-loved play equipment has been amazed by the response.

Benjamin Pepler was compelled to start the page in aid of Brambles Nursery in Owen Square, Deal, after an email from the owner.

Jacquie Bramble, who has run the nursery for 33 years, had emailed parents to explain the difficult financial position the business was in.

Following a tough time during the Covid 19 pandemic, she stated how grant funding was low, meaning charges for extras - which had traditionally provided free - would now need to be introduced.

This includes a charge for the lunch hour and entry fees to parties such as at Halloween and Christmas.

In addition to this, she explained that the nursery was struggling to replace equipment including the popular climbing frame tower in the garden.

Mr Pepler said: "As soon as Jacquie sent out the email expressing the struggles they were having, I instantly wanted to help.

"I'm not a handy man with tools, so couldn't help with maintenance works, and I haven't got lots of money to donate myself.

"I talked with my wife and decided to set up a GoFundMe page to see if I could rally something that way.

"The reaction... well, it was amazing!

"I originally set a goal of £500 but changed it to £1,000 as I could see it raising more.

"I'm so thankful to everybody who has donated and helped us get to the £585 we are currently at."

Mr Pepler's two year old daughter Ava Rose only started at the nursery this year but he says she "absolutely loves it."

He added: "The staff are so friendly and we can really see a difference in our daughter's early education even after one term.

"I feel more people should help out, as this is what community is about."

Jacquie Bramble said: "We are all absolutely stunned by the very quick and positive response.

"People have been so generous and kind. I can’t thank Mr Pepler and everyone who has donated enough."
