Former Dover Athletic centre-half Jake Leberl is returning to Crabble following his release by AFC Wimbledon at the end of last season.
Leberl, 32, who made over 100 appearances for Whites before joining Margate in 2002, has agreed a one-year contract.
Manager Andy Hessenthaler said: "I saw Jake play when he was at Dagenham. He's a good player and a decent centre half, despite not being the tallest.
"He's also very versatile and can slot in at right back and play in midfield if asked too. He's a great addition to our squad."
