Hollywood star Johnny Depp is reportedly staying at a small hotel near Dover while filming his latest movie.

The A-lister is said to have checked into Wallett's Court, at St Margaret's-at-Cliffe while shooting Into The Woods at Dover Castle.

He is staying at the £95-a-night hotel while working on the Disney film, according to reports.

A publicity officer for the film today said they did not think Depp had arrived in Britain yet before starting filming next month.

But a receptionist at Wallett's Court said she "had not seen" Depp - before breaking into giggles.

Dover Castle has been turned into a film set this week for Into The Woods, which is based on the musical by Stephen Sondheim and the book by James Lapine.

Depp plays the wolf in the film, which also stars Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep and comedian James Corden.

Filming began yesterday, with celebrity-spotters catching a glimpse of Anna Kendrick as Cinderella in a white frilly gown.

She was spotted on set chatting to co-star Chris Pine, who plays Prince Charming, and looked a world away from his familiar Star Trek character Captain Kirk.

Other stars seen at Dover Castle include James Corden, who plays a baker, Emily Blunt as his wife, Tracy Ullman as Jack's mother and Christine Baranski who plays the wicked stepmother.

Film-makers earlier denied 50-year-old Depp, who played Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean, will be at the castle this week.

Referring to reports Depp is staying near Dover, a spokesman for the film said today: "That's wishful thinking I'm afraid. Mr Depp doesn't start working with us until next month.

"So far as I'm aware, he hasn't even arrived in the UK yet."

Hundreds of local people applied for the chance to be extras in the film, earning more than £100 a day, and the lucky ones are now finding out what is involved in the film industry.

The castle has been used for many films over the years, including Hamlet and The Other Boleyn Girl, as well as for an episode of Doctor Who.
