He runs the scheme with Stephanie Hayman, the joint brainchild of the Whole School Meals social enterprise which serves home cooked and nutritious dinners to schools.
The Chequers Community Kitchen teaches people of all ages and from all demographics how to cook from scratch, saving money and keeping home running costs down. Some courses are funded and are free to certain marginalised individuals like unemployed people. Others are chargable.
The after school teaching menu includes tortilla (Spanish omelette), creamy carbonara, carrot cake muffins, breaded chicken with salad with hand made breadcrumbs. Safe chopping, grating, separating eggs and avoiding cross contamination are some of the skills they will learn.
It runs on Wednesdays during term times. Cost is £10 per session. All ingredients are included and tutors are qualified and CRB checked.
