'Leave our market alone'

Independent traders in Deal are determined to halt plans to find a new home for the town’s Saturday market.
The businesses in the northern part of the High Street want the stall holders to stay on the Union Road car park and have the backing of the Chamber of Trade.
Robin Green, from the gift shop Greencades, said the market attracted shoppers.
“Saturday is constantly, without fail, my busiest day of the week. Business doubles or trebles compared to any other day.”
He has written a protest letter to the district council, which has already admitted it wants the “much-needed” parking charges.
But Mr Green said the town car parks had been less full since car park charges rose last year.
Peter Varrall, chairman of Deal and Walmer Chamber of Trade, agreed that the north end of the High Street was the best place for the stall holders.
He said: “The markets helps to support the local shops in that area.”
District council press officer Andy Steele said: “People’s views will be taken into consideration before decisions are made.”
