Lest we forget: Remembrance services in Deal, Dover and Sandwich

A range of Remembrance services will pay tribute to the Fallen.

The first, on Armistice Day (Saturday) is at Hamilton Road Cemetery, Deal at 10.50am where two new memorial benches will be dedicated.

There will be a Remembrance Sunday service at the war memorial at Deal Hospital, London Road, also at 10.50am, on Sunday.

Sandwich Remembrance Sunday service begins at 10.45am, when members of the town council, veterans groups and townspeople will gather at the war memorial in Market Street.

A two-minute silence will take place at 11am, followed by a wreath laying.

A procession will then move on to St Clement’s Church in Knightrider Street for a service, returning back to the Guildhall.

St Margaret’s Royal British Legion will mark Remembrance Sunday with a service in St Margaret’s Church at 10.45am. Remembrance Sunday will be marked in Dover with the usual procession to the war memorial for a wreath-laying ceremony.

A parade of standards, veterans and other organisations will assemble outside Marks & Spencer in Biggin Street at 10.30am on Sunday.

They will march to the war memorial outside the town council offices at Maison Dieu House in Biggin Street.

A two-minute silence will be observed at 11am.

The service will be conducted by the Rev John Walker, the mayor’s chaplain, and there will be a laying of wreaths.

A display of historic and functionable firearms will be on show in Walmer.

The Victorian Anglo Zulu War exhibition is at the Royal Marines Association Club on The Strand.

A large collection of historical artefacts and exhibits of British soldiers in full period uniform will also be on show. Among the exhibits are the private collections of Graham Pond and Luke Purdie.

The exhibition opens at noon on Saturday and is available to view all day on Remembrance Sunday too.

Donations to the Royal Marines Charity will be accepted.
