Expert kite flyers give out free kites on Walmer Green in Deal
00:04, 28 May 2016
Expert kite flyers will be on Walmer Green today giving out free kites and showing children how to fly them.
Kent Kite Flyers are offering everyone the chance to have a go from 11am, next to the sailing club.
Cllr Pat Heath, chairman of Walmer Parish Council, said: “We are delighted to be offering a new free family event for Walmer and Deal.
“The first 80 children will be able to pick up a kite for free and will be shown how to assemble, decorate and fly it.
“Kent Kite Flyers will also be on hand to give demonstrations with larger and more sophisticated models.”
A selection of club kites can be loaned in return for a donation to Slideaway, a bereavement charity for children.
Malcolm Ford of Kent Kite Flyers said: “People might recognise us from previous visits.
“Members have flown illuminated kites on the green on several past November evenings to raise money for Children in Need.
“Walmer Green offers the perfect location for kite flying, with lots of open space and beautiful views. Kites will also be available to buy.”
