Deal and Sandwich areas escaped the worst of the Kent roads chaos following the weekend snow falls in the district.
Although Saturday afternoon football match at Deal’s ground against Herne Bay was cancelled, along with other sporting fixtures, and many plans for drivers to travel were abandoned.
Coastguard 4x4 vehicles, normally used by the coastal rescue service, gave a helping hand on Saturday and Sunday when they transported critical care nurses around the Deal and Dover area.
Phil Binks, coastguard watch officer, said: "This is part of an agreement with the other emergency services.
"On Saturday the Deal coastguard vehicle was also asked to assist when an ambulance could not get through the snow, so the driver took a paramedic to the casualty."
Saturday’s concert by the Band of the Royal British Legion at the Duke of York’s Royal Military School, Dover, was cancelled and has been re-scheduled to take place at the same place at 7.30pm on February 26. All tickets will be valid for the second concert and if any person has lost their tickets they are asked to ring 01304 366337 as a list of ticket holders are listed.
A charity evening called Music of the Night, held at St Andrew’s Church in Deal, also on Saturday, went ahead despite many people keeping away due to the weather. The musicians Jamie Rogers and Miranda Amess are planning to reschedule the performance for those who missed the concert.
