The villager accused of stabbing a young shop worker is due to appear at Canterbury Crown Court.

Ian Bartlett, 61, of Shipyard, Ash, was arrested shortly after the attack on suspicion of assault.

He is due to appear at a preliminary hearing where he’s expected to enter a plea on February 17.

Emergency services were called to the shop, in The Street, on January 27 to reports that a woman had been knifed at just after 8am.

The air ambulance also landed near by to treat the 21-year-old victim, who was taken to William Harvey Hospital with a wound in her back.

Her condition was not life-threatening.
