New signing George Purcell made his debut for Dover in their 1-0 pre-season friendly against Stevenage at Crabble on Tuesday night.
Another Dover new boy, Michael Corcoran, scored the winner from the spot shortly after newly-promoted League 1 Stevenage, who fielded several first-teamers, missed one themselves.
Boss Martin Hayes (pictured) said: "George is a striker with an eye for goal and I will be looking to play him up front or out wide.
"He came on the scene late for me because while the Adam Birchall saga was going on, I let a few players go.
"We knew he (Birchall) was going last week but there wasn’t a great deal out there and we made the enquiry about George because if you don’t ask you don’t get.
"He had another year at York but is a Kent boy and I think he was a little bit homesick. He slotted in well the other night and I think he will score goals."
