The Honorary Recorder, Judge Andrew Patience, joined Mayor Cllr Sue Jones and town councillors in the civic parade from the Town Council offices to St Mary’s Church for the annual civic service on Sunday July 19.

As the town of Dover holds the Speakership of the Cinque Ports Confederation this year the traditional procession, usually led by the Mace, was led by the Silver Oar which signifies the Speaker of the Confederation.

The Oar was carried by the Mayor’s cadet, Able Cadet Jonathan Tinker.

The service was also attended by mayors and representatives from the other towns which form part of the Confederation including Sandwich, Hythe, New Romney, Deal, Folkestone, Ramsgate, Margate, Lydd, Tenterden, Broadstairs and Faversham.
