MP and NHS have e-mail spat
09:19, 08 September 2011
Dover and Deal MP Charlie Elphicke says he doesn’t plan to have any more meetings with health bosses “at this stage” after previous meetings ended in confusion.
Nicholas Wells, chairman of the East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust, had offered to talk to Mr Elphicke on various issues.
But the MP replied: “Sadly, as we so often seem to have a different recollection following our meetings, I do not think it a good idea to meet at this stage. I would prefer the relevant information to be documented.”
In relation to talks the two sides had over changes at the minor injuries unit, Mr Wells told Mr Elphicke: “It is unfortunate that these proposals were the subject of press speculation and comment by you whilst we were still working them up in conjunction with the affected staff.”
And on another issue: “I feel it is a pity that you did not contact the trust to get the facts prior to making public comment.”
Mr Wells has taken the unusual step of making the e-mails public.
