Microbrewery Time & Tide launches pale ale 'Barnes is on Fire' at The Berry pub, in Walmer

Time & Tide, Deal’s local micro brewery, has launched a new beer.

Named Barnes on Fire, it pays homage to Chris Barnes, landlord of the Berry pub in Canada Road, Walmer, a CAMRA award winning pub which promotes great quality ales and craft beers.

The new addition to the range has been developed by Time & Tide’s head brewer Sam Weller, and is being sold as a limited edition from kegs or bottles as only one run so far has been made, with the possibility that more could follow if it is popular.

The new ale was launched on Thursday evening.

Mr Weller said: “With a KeyKeg it comes through the draught lines. It means the beer is clearer, fizzier because there is no contact with the air, it’s the best thing for the beer itself.”

Since starting out in November 2013, the microbrewery has released five beers: All In Jim, Sprat Waffler, Smugglers Stout, Calista IPA and Hop Tide, a super session IPA (2.8%). And more are in the pipeline.

Three months ago they branched out, moving in to their own premises at a converted barn in Eastry, meaning they no longer need to brew in other local micro breweries like Ripple Steam Brewery in Sutton.

Mr Weller said: “It means we can brew more – 20 brewer’s barrels per run (two weeks) – that’s about 3,200 litres per batch.

Chris Barnes, landlord of the Berry, said: “It’s lovely that they’ve named this after me.

“If it is popular, they may do more runs of it.”

  • Barnes on Fire (4.5%) is an intensely hoppy pale ale with hints of grapefruit and pine. It will be launched at the Berry pub, Canada Road, Walmer, at 8pm tonight (Thursday) and is only available at the at the Berry.
  • A limited edition 90 bottles will go on sale on the night – a great and unique Christmas present.
