New berth sails into place
14:06, 02 July 2013
Sections of the new berth, which have been under construction at the former hoverport, have been lifted and transported across Dover Harbour.
The replacement for berth number six was constructed despite the company involved in the work going into administration earlier this year.
Steelworks were delivered to the hoverpad where fabrication took place under a huge cover which protected the work and the workers from the bad weather.
At the weekend, two floating cranes, called Apollo and Atlas, arrived at the port and on Tuesday whey went alongside the Prince of Wales Pier to lift the berth sections and carry them across to the Eastern Docks.
The project follows the refurbishment of berth three, and berth seven is due to be refurbished in 2015.
