Pupils from Priory Fields School had a break from their lessons on Friday to try out some play equipment which they had helped choose.

The district council had refurbished two play areas in Northbourne Avenue and Elms Vale recreation ground, and they asked the community – including members of the Priory Fields School Council – what they would like to see installed.

The new equipment certainly met with the pupils’ approval when they went to the opening ceremonies with teacher Shara Wheeler.

The play areas have been redesigned with new equipment and play features, including zip wires, new swings for toddlers and juniors, balancing nature trails and spinning units at both sites, with extensive landscaping improvements.

Some of the equipment is specially designed for children with disabilities. These include a slide wide enough for a child and a carer, and a roundabout with room for a wheelchair.

The play area at Sheridan Road on Dover’s Buckland Estate, is likely to be the next to get some attention.
