Nominations sought for Civic Awards

15:12, 18 January 2011

Nominations are being sought for this year’s civic awards presented by the Mayor of Dover.

The awards, to be presented on March 7, honour members of the community who give freely of their time and experience for the townsfolk’s benefit.

They volunteer in many ways, running clubs and groups, raising money for charity, fighting for the causes important to the town and working on practical tasks within the community.

Mayor Cllr Sue Jones said: “The awards are important because we must all know someone like this, someone who often makes us feel as though we should be doing more.

“This army of volunteers is in action 365 days of the year giving the town a vibrancy which is rarely officially recognised.

“I know these people exist as I have met many worthy candidates during my year. They often don’t want any recognition but they deserve it. It only takes a minute to fill in a nomination form; some of these people have been giving their all for decades!

“Please help me to say thank you to them on your behalf.”

Nomination forms are available from the Town Council Offices, Maison Dieu House, Biggin Street, Dover or call 01304 242625.

Completed forms have to be received by January 31.
