Get ready for Deal’s very own Oktoberfest at The Lane

12:06, 02 October 2016

Building on its German heritage, a Deal eaterie will be helping folk mark Oktoberfest.

Chris Vidler and Anna Murray, who own The Lane in Southcourt, have embraced the world’s largest volksfest which is held in the South eastern German state Bavaria.

Anna’s family are from Germany, prompting the restaurant’s endorsement for the third year running.

They will be running a German themed menu in addition to their regular selection of dishes from tomorrow (Monday) to Friday, October 14.

Treats include schweinshaxe - slow-cooked pork knuckle with dumplings, Huhner schnitzel – breaded chicken with sautéed potatoes, and currywurst.

But new for this year, especially for burger lovers, is the big German burger.

Mr Vidler said: “We’d like to think we do burgers well here at The Lane, so we thought why not create a German style burger for our Oktoberfest menu.”

It is made up of a German beef burger, a bratwurst sausage and sauerkraut in a salty, chewy pretzel bun.

The pair visit the country several times a year, gleaning inspiration from Bavarian restaurant Hofbrauhaus.

The Lane’s staff will be dressing up in Lederhosen and dirndl dress throughout the week and the venue will be decorated for the festival.

The Oktoberfest menu will be available at lunchtime and in the evenings and booking is highly advised.
