The annual charity Crocus Walk may have been cancelled this year but that didn't stop organiser Kerry Banks BEM completing it with her partner.

The Breast Cancer Now ambassador was forced to postpone the annual sponsored walk from Walmer to St Margarets for the first time in its 15 year history, on Saturday.

But having collected some sponsorship and aware of the knock on effect the coronavirus outbreak is having on charities, she still wanted to do her bit - while maintaining her safety and others.

She said: "We did it as part of our daily exercise but on our bicycles so it took much less time, keeping two metres from others at all times.

"We stopped halfway for the two minute silence and came back."

Claire Marshall, Rich May, Marena Hubbard and Melissa-Ann Hall also felt compelled to still complete the walk but while remaining socially distanced.

Mrs Banks added: "They did 15k on different routes, separately, and sent me their pictures.

"At the moment we have raised over £3,000."

148 had signed up to take part in this year's walk, which has now been rescheduled for Saturday, September 19.

Those who haven't cancelled their place will automatically be entered.

Mrs Banks added: "In this very challenging and testing times, all charities are really struggling. They are set to lose billions this year and the knock on effect will be on research and care.

"Any support you can give will make a difference.

"Like us all, I'm hoping for the pandemic to pass so we can all come together to celebrate our lives and get fundraising again."
