Prince's professional Rob McGuirk tamed one of the world’s most famous courses on his way to winning the American Golf Holiday’s Pro-Am Tour event in California.

The event was held over three courses, Spyglass Hill, Spanish Bay and Pebble Beach, with the latter widely regarded as one of the toughest lay-outs in world golf.

But 37-year-old McGuirk, pictured right, fired a superb three-under-par 69 at Pebble Beach, following rounds of 70 and 76 at Spyglass Hill and Spanish Bay, to finish two shots in front of John Harrison (Maften Hull GC) in the 54-hole professional event with a one-under-par total of 215.

McGuirk also came first in the Pro-Am team competition with his three amateur partners from Essex and Hertfordshire to win a total of £1,600 in prize money.

He said: "Although I played well at Pebble Beach, to be honest I enjoyed it more at Spyglass Hill which was an absolutely superb course, the best I have ever played.

"But it was a superb trip and all of my amateur partners played well – we won the team event by 13 shots!"

Next Wednesday, McGuirk, who lives in Sandwich Bay, is taking part in regional qualifying for next month’s Open Championship at Rochester & Cobham GC.
