Properties in Sholden experienced an electrical fault this week which damaged appliances.

The fault led to an increase in voltage on Tuesday evening, which damaged electrical equipment in parts of The Glade, The Street, Farm Lane and New Road.

Not all properties were affected but some experienced problems with their TVs and boilers.

A passer-by who wished to remain anonymous said: “I saw the vans outside on Farm Lane, 19 people have lost their boilers and TVs have blown up.

“I think it was a massive power surge and I’d like to know what the cause was.”

UK Power Networks has apologised to customers in Sholden who have been affected.

A spokesman said: “Our engineers worked late into the night carrying out safety checks on the customers’ internal wiring.

“Work is continuing alongside our specialist contractors to contact all those who have been affected to check their electrical equipment and repair any items that have been damaged due to the fault.

“The cause of the incident is being investigated.”
