Pupils protest in bid to save school
17:44, 25 March 2006
CHANTING children waving banners and placards marched through Deal town centre on Saturday to protest at the possible closure of their primary school.
They shouted "save our school" as they walked through the shopping precinct and were joined by parents, staff and governors.
The protest was part of a campaign by South Deal Primary against possible plans by the county council to shut the Mill Road school in a bid to cut down on the numbers of empty desks in classrooms across the Dover and Deal district.
Jill Butcher, chairman of the action group, said: "We are full of the fighting spirit and optimistic our school will stay open."
