Sandwich Town’s hopes of leapfrogging Ashford in the Shepherd Neame Kent Cricket League Division 1 were ruined when the game between the two sides at Stacians Park was washed out after 35 overs.
Ashford, batting first, had made good progress during that time, reaching 170-2 before the rain arrived. Jack Bradley and Matthew van Poppel took a wicket apiece.
Sandwich 2nds were also grateful to have batted first at The Butts where, after making 238-5, they ran through the St Lawrence & Highland Court innings after the wicket had been freshened up by showers.
Dan Cook claimed 3-18 and John Wickham, Liam Evans and Alan Amos all claimed two wickets apiece as St Lawrence were bowled out for just 91, Earlier, John Eward (56) and David Scarr (47) had found batting a much more comfortable occupation.
With Whitstable 2nds losing to Hartley, Sandwich are now in second place in the Division 1 2nd XI table, two points behind Beckenham.
