06:00, 30 October 2020

Despite inclement weather and almost losing a gazebo in the wind authors Andrew Sargent and Colin Varrall sold almost 100 copies of their joint book at an outdoor signing event.

The pair, who both contribute regularly to The Mercury Memories pages, united forces to research From Rink to Regent, which retells the history of the much pictured Regent Cinema, in Marine Parade, Deal .

A portion of profits made from the initial run of 500 books will be donated to Deal Timeball Tower Musuem, which gave permission for the pair to set up a stand on the forecourt beside the tower and Regent on Saturday.

The Deal Musuem in St George's Road is the second beneficiary. The money will be given to both museums when all copies are sold.

Copies of the book, priced £12.99, are on sale at the Timeball Tower and Deal Maritime and Local History Museum in St George’s Road, eBay and Amazon.
