Walmer Lifeboat is encouraging families to recycle their Christmas trees for a third year running.

The station on The Strand is offering a chipping service, sponsored by Tom Ledger of Leaf Tree Services, in exchange for a donation.

The chipping event will be from 9am and 3pm on Saturday, January 8.

But redundant trees can be deposited within a small-fenced compound at the station any time from 26 December, with donations posted in an envelope through the boathouse door.

All donations will be used to raise vital funds to help train and equip the crew to carry on their work saving lives at sea.

Spokesman Chris Winslade said: "Recycle your tree to help save a life at sea."
