Dover Sea Sports Centre has been officially opened by the Lord
Warden of the Cinque Ports, Admiral the Lord Boyce.
It marks another step in Dover's regeneration, and the
authorities invited a number of national newspaper journalists to
visit the town to see what's happening.
Improvements at Dover Priory Station, plans for the former
Connaught Barracks and the Western Heights, cable car links to
Dover Castle, and a more attractive promenade were all on the
itinerary.
The visitors had a chance to see Fort Burgoyne and hear of the
plans to turn it into a creative area for artists, and they were
also shown the plans for a second ferry terminal at Dover's Western
Docks.
Then it was down to the sea sports centre for the grand opening
of the £2.5 million building, which is the new home for Dover
Rowing Club and Dover Lifeguard Club as well as other water sports
activities.
