00:03, 26 July 2014
A memorial parade and service to remember the men of the Dover Patrol will take place in St Margaret’s today (Sunday).
It will start at 10.30am at the Dover Patrol memorial obelisk at Leathercote Point opposite the Blue Birds Tea Rooms. Refreshments will be available at the village hall in Reach Road, St Margaret's, afterwards.
The service, dedicated to the 2,000 men who died keeping the Dover Strait clear of enemy submarines during the First World War, has been organised by the Veterans Association of Deal.
There will be a short service with prayers and hymns and a marching ceremony conducted by the T.S.Lynx Sea Cadet Marching Band.
Chairman of Dover District Council Cllr Sue Nicholas, leader of Dover District Council Cllr Paul Watkins and MP Charlie Elphicke are among those set to attend.
Secretary of the Veterans Association of Deal, Malcolm Gibbons said: “Everyone is welcome. We hope to see as many people as possible at the event.”
