Royal Marines concert on Sunday
14:14, 11 July 2012
Sunday is the highlight of the Deal Memorial Bandstand season when the Band of HM Royal Marines visit Walmer to present a concert and mark the 23rd year since the bombing at the School of Music.
The IRA explosion, on September 22 1989, killed 11 musicians and during the programme of music there will be a rededication of the bandstand, built in memory of those who died in the terrorist attack.
Bandstand trust chairman John Perkins said: “We are pleased to welcome the Commandant General Royal Marines, Major General Edward Davis, who joins us for the first time both as CGRM and as the Captain of Deal Castle.
“Weather permitting, the RAF Memorial Flight will be paying their tribute to the musicians who we will remember on Sunday with a flypast by a Hurricane and Spitfire just before 2pm."
Entertainment starts on Sunday at 12.30pm on Walmer Green and the concert, sponsored by the East Kent Mercury, starts at 2pm.
East Kent Mercury readers can get the concert's 24-page, full colour programme for £1 - half price - on production of a voucher in this week's edition. Sales of the programme go to the bandstand trust.
