Having reached their target distance in just four days, they continued on racking up a further 977km on the final day, last Friday.

Similarly, the donations to Martha Trust also continued, bringing the overall total raised to £1,100.

Captain Will Morrison said: “We have really enjoyed the challenge and hope we have shown that lockdown can be used positively for everyone to improve their fitness, mental and physical health.

"We are also so proud to have raised so much money for such a great charity and are excited to see how it will help. Thanks to everyone that has donated.”

Fundraising and events officer for Martha, Kerry Banks BEM said: “They did so well and totally surpassed the original 2000km.

"We are truly grateful for the monies that they raised which will go directly towards the care of our very special residents.

"Our homes have been on lockdown since the end of February - thanks to the incredible care and dedication of our staff, our very special residents remain COVID free, and long may that continue."
