French-themed weekend is a success
09:13, 10 June 2013
Cool breezes did nothing to chill the excitement when Sandwich went French for Le Weekend.
The town, its residents and visitors revelled in the continental food at the French market, kicked their heels up at the dancing and said “c’est magnifique” of the rest of the entertainment.
The two-day celebration, now in its fourth year, boasted live music from Les Troubadours de Paris in an authentic street concert, dancing from the Dean Academy of Performing Arts (DAPA) and plenty more in the bargain.
The celebration was spread throughout the town, and the Quay Green was a colourful mixture of funfair, cars and a medieval encampment warming up for their own major fayre in Sandwich on June 22 and 23.
And on Sunday, cyclists mounted their bikes for Le Tour de Sandwich bike ride in aid of childrens charity Ride.
Organiser Steve Laslett said: “Le Weekend was a massive success. It has become one of the major visitor events in the local calendar and we will continue to take it from strength to strength”.
