Pupils on a school bus swore and threw drinks cans out of the window, say a Deal couple.

Roberta Paris and Alan Comer were travelling on the number 14 Stagecoach bus from Canterbury to Deal last Monday when pupils from Sir Roger Manwood’s and Sandwich Technology School caused a disturbance.

Miss Paris and Mr Comer, of Davis Avenue, Deal, said the pupils’ behaviour was “disgusting”.

Miss Paris said: “They were standing on the seats and throwing cans of drink. We thought about telling them to stop but we were worried they would throw stuff at us.

“They should teach kids to respect public property.

“We understand they just got out of school and they needed to let off steam but that was too much. It was horrible.

“I’ve got three children myself in primary school. I would be mortified if my children did that.

“They have to do something about it. They can’t do that behaviour.”

The pair said that as it was a double decker bus it was difficult for the bus driver to see what was going on.

When the couple got off the bus, they told the driver what had happened and were told a complaint would be made.

Miss Paris, 33, added: “There was one kid sitting next to us who was minding his own business and had stuff thrown at him. He wasn’t injured but we thought that was out of order.”

The Mercury has contacted both schools for a comment on the issue. Sir Roger Manwood’s School refused to comment.

A spokesman for Sandwich Technology School said: “We have a very positive relationship with Stagecoach and work collaboratively to address any issues that might arise – thankfully these are few and far between.

“We are aware that concerns have been raised about a recent journey and we are liaising with Stagecoach at present to determine whether or not any action is required.”

A Stagecoach spokesman confirmed the incident is being investigated and the company is in contact with the school and the local authority.
