Sandwich ready for Le Weekend
11:11, 07 June 2012
Sandwich town centre will be bustling with a two-day outdoor café concert as part of Le Weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
Market Street will be transformed into a French music hall with bandstand, tables, chairs, refreshments and sound system playing some great tunes to continue the party atmosphere from last weekend.
Le Weekend is a celebration of the town’s French links. It started three years ago as a fundraiser to pay for the bi-annual visits to Sandwich by French residents of Honfleur, the French town that is twinned with Sandwich.
French musicians are travelling from Paris for Le Weekend. "Last year we had Jenny sing Edith Piaf. She was brilliant. This year we have three French acts joining us to play a mixture of English and French music called Les Troubadors de Paris."
Breads, cheeses and olives are among the goods on sale at the French market and, after a spot of shopping, sit and relax to enjoy the free concert afterwards.
